Celestica Named to Corporate Knight’s Best 50 Corporate Citizen List

At Celestica, we are committed to leading the way in the area of sustainability – and 2017 is proving to be another successful year on our journey. We continue to work with each other, as well as with our customers, suppliers and local communities to make a positive impact in our industry and drive change.

As a testament of our progress, Celestica has once again been named one of Canada’s Best 50 Corporate Citizens by Corporate Knights, an organization dedicated to encouraging responsible business practices. The Corporate Knights’ 16th annual 2017 Best 50 Corporate Citizens list ranks Canada’s top corporate citizens based on environmental, social and governance indicators. 

This is the fourth consecutive year that Celestica has been included on the list, ranking 24 out of 50 companies.  

At the heart of our sustainability strategy is our 26,000 employees from around the globe. Here are just a few of the initiatives our employees dedicated their efforts to in 2016 to land us on the Best 50 list:

  • Employees in Laem Chabang, Thailand developed and deployed an IoT solution to automate energy consumption. This resulted in a 13.7 per cent improvement in energy productivity in the first four months, equivalent to 1,041 metric tonnes of CO2e reduction.
  • A team in Toronto, Canada reduced the volume of packing on incoming components by designing a reusable carrier. Not only does the carrier reduce to volume of waste generated by 100 kilograms annually, it also enhances the protection of the incoming materials.
  • In Johor, Malaysia, employees automated the PCBA wash machine by installing sensors to shut down the power when the machine is in idle mode. This resulted in a savings of 2,000 cubic meters of water annually as well as an estimated 20 per cent electricity savings on the machine.
  • Over 3,000 employees participated in Time Off to Volunteer activities including volunteering at food banks, nursing homes and schools in their local communities.
